HAMPTON, Ga. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's runners capped the 2012 season with competition in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championship races held at Nash Farm Battlefield near Atlanta.
SeniorShelby Bryceland (Virginia Beach/Tallwood) placed 47th (24:31.27) in the 6K race in a field of 184 runners to help pace the VWC women to a 15th place finish among 26 teams. The Marlin men, who competed without No. 1 runner Darren Driscoll (Haymarket/Battlefield) due to injury, were paced by rookie Glenn Rose (Virginia Beach/Tallwood). He placed 93rd (29:14) in a field of 160 runners to help VWC finish 20th among 23 teams.
Rookie Andrew Werner (Chesapeake/Western Branch) was second in for the VWC men, placing 115th (30:22.57). Sophomores Liz Wade (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) placed 71st (25:12.28) and Emma Helsel (Marshall/Fauquier) finished 73rd (25:15.20) to help the women.
Mary Baldwin College's Sophia Stone (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) won the women's race in a time of 22:03.69, but it was Trinity University of Texas that placed first as a team.
Centre College's John Kieffer (Dublin, Oho/Coffman) placed first in the men's race (25:17.37), which was won by Lynchburg College overall.
