Cifuentes wins third straight, but Marlins fall to Goucher

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Marissa Cifuentes, Lisa Nguyen, and Hannah Parent all emerged as winners in Virginia Wesleyan College's non-conference match with Goucher College on Monday, but the visiting Gophers notched the overall victory, 7-2 at the Everett Tennis Center.

Cifuentes (Virginia Beach/Bayside) played to a victory for the host Marlins at No. 3 singles, bouncing Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia/Germantown Friends) 6-1, 6-1.  It was the third consecutive win for the VWC rookie, who improved to 7-3 overall. 

Nguyen (Virginia Beach/Tallwood) and Parent (Port Tobacco, Md./Indian Head Henry E. Lackey) gave VWC a decision in doubles, combining to win at the No. 2 flight over Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and Turner, 8-4. 

Virginia Wesleyan's women compete again on Friday, April 3, at 3 p.m. at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.
