VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Wesleyan College's run through the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship tournament in women's tennis ended Saturday in the semifinals at The Everett Tennis Center.
The Marlins dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 16-ranked Washington and Lee University (17-5).
VWC closed the year with an 9-13 record, competing with a rookie-dominated team that fared well against a line-up of foes that included the University of Mary Washington, the College of New Jresey, St. Olaf College, Oberlin College and St. Thomas University.
Washington and Lee took the lead in Saturday's match with a sweep of doubles. The Generals won 8-4 at the No. 1 position, posted an 8-2 win at No. 2 and and 8-0 decision at No. 3. WLU capped the win with 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
VWC's appearance in the ODAC semifinals was the fifth in the past seven years for the Marlins' program.
