Marlins finish 1-1 in conference road contests

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Rookie Sara Yousif emerged as a four-time winner in a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matches on Saturday for the Virginia Wesleyan College women's tennis team.

Yousif (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Manus Academy) guided the Marlins at No.1 singles and doubles and won in both flights as VWC recovered from a 5-4 loss to Randolph College to post a 5-4 victory over host Sweet Briar College.  She defeated Randolph's Dina Velazco(Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Colegio Las Fuertes) 6-0, retired and dropped Sweet Briar's Sarah Manter (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) 6-2, 6-1.  

Victories in doubles preceded both singles wins as she teamed with rookie Victoria Ryherd (El Paso, Texas/Loretto Academy) for an 8-3 win against Randolph and competed with senior Stephanie Bittner (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) to post an 8-1 win over Sweet Briar.

Ryherd was a two-time winner against Sweet Briar, taking a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2 singles and an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with rookie partner Mia Proctor (Arnold, Md./Broadneck).  Proctor also won at No. 3 singles against the Vixens, 6-3, 6-0, and posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against Randolph.

Virginia Wesleyan, now 7-10 overall and 5-3 in ODAC, competes again on Friday, April 5, in conference competition at Hollins University at 3 p.m.
