VIRGINIA BEACH -- Rookie Sara Yousif played at the No. 1 flight for the second consecutive match and won for the second straight time to help lead the Virginia Wesleyan College women's tennis team to an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Shenandoah University at the Everett Tennis Center.
Yousif (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Manus Academy)owned a 5-0 lead in the first set over Shannon Allin (Burke/Lake Braddock) who retired due to injury. Yousif improve to 3-3 in singles and to 2-0 at No. 1 doubles with rookie partner Victoria Ryherd (El Paso, Texas/Loretto Academy). They posted an 8-1 win over Molly Barb (Edinburg/Woodstock Central) and Allin.
Victoria Torres (Pembroke Pines, Fla./West Broward), Hannah Parent (Port Tobacco, Md./ Indian Head Lackey), Stephanie Bittner (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Mia Proctor (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) were all two-time winners for the Marlins, taking decisions in singles and doubles. Torres and Parent turned in two of the strongest efforts in singles. Torres won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Parent won 8-0 at No. 5. They combined in doubles for an 8-3 decision.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16 in Lexington. The Marlins face perennial power Washington and Lee University on Friday at 7 p.m. and take Randolph-Macon College and Emory & Henry College at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively, on the Generals courts. All three are ODAC matches.
