Offense eludes Marlins in loss at Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's women's lacrosse team had problems sparking the offense Sunday and dropped a 17-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference game to the host Hornets of Shenandoah University.
Shenandoah (9-6, 6-2 ODAC) scored 11 straight goals in the first half to take a commanding lead that was never threatened. Junior Brooke Cabeceiras (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester)scored for Virginia Wesleyan (5-9, 3-5 ODAC) late in the first half to avert a shutout.
Competition was closer in the second half, but Shenandoah finished with a 6-2 scoring edge to produce the final margin of victory.
Candace Carey (Charlottesville/Albemarle) and Carla Wiliams (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) scored a goal each for the Marlins.
Samantha Sission led Shenandoah with seven goals.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Wednesday, April 16, at Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m.
