Men's Track & Field Garners All-Academic Team Status
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's track and field team earned All-Academic Team honors for the first time in program history at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year.
The Marlins posted a team GPA of 3.24 last season. Teams must post a GPA of 3.10 in order to receive all-academic consideration. In total, there were 112 men's teams and 175 women's teams honored by the Association for success in the classroom and in competition.
"We are always proud of our student-athletes' academic achievements and this is a big one," head coach Mat Littleton said. "The VWC Men's Track & Field team earned USTFCCCA national academic honors as an NCAA Div. III All-Academic Team for the first time in program history. Although the men's cross country team has earned this distinction four of the past five years, the track & field program had never achieved it."
The elite group of 112 men's teams includes just one other Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) school, Washington and Lee University. The Marlins posted the second-highest GPA amongst all Division III schools in the state of Virginia.
"This says a lot about the current culture in our program and sets the bar for what the academic expectations are for our incoming freshman," Littleton added. "We are proud to have student-athletes that strive to be their best both on the track and in the classroom."
