Marlins Finish Competition on First Day of ODAC Championship

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College track and field teams completed action on day one of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) track and field championships Friday with several Marlins earning points.

Michelle Yates was the highlight of the day, winning the shot put with a heave of 38' 6.75", more than foot farther than the second place finisher.

Rolonda Taylor also had an impressive performance in the long jump, leaping 16' 6.5" to finish in fourth place, earning five points for the Marlins. As one of the athletes that competes in two events, Taylor also earned six points with a 4' 11.5" jump in the high jump, earning third place laurels.

Shakira Mills (100m), Tiana Hughes (400m), Alyssa Willis (400m), and Kwonsha Washington (400m hurdles) all qualified for finals, which will be on Saturday, with their Friday performances.

The men's track and field team saw a couple point scorers as well as Keane Dye earned two points with a seventh place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase as he broke the tape in 10:08.37.

Parker Pearman earned five points in his first ODAC Outdoor Championship, clearing 5' 11.25" in the high jump in a performance that tied for fourth.

Chrishaud Hawkins (400m hurdles) and Trey White (400m and 200m) also qualified for Saturday finals.

The ODAC Championships will conclude on Saturday.
