VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Wesleyan College's march into the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship tournament will begin at home!
For the first time in program history, VWC has been selected as a host site for a four-team, double-elimination regional tournament beginning Friday, May 9, at Marlins Field. The tournament will extend into Sunday, May 11.
The Marlins (37-5), and two-time defending champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, will take on the College of Staten Island Dolphins (23-15) at 3:30 p.m. Friday. A 1 p.m. game will feature Catholic University (23-13) facing Christopher Newport University (35-6).
Saturday's schedule will include games at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m. Sunday games begin at noon and 2:30 p.m., the latter if needed.
Staten Island enters the tournament as the City of New York Athletic Conference two-time defending champion. Catholic is the reigning champion of the Landmark Conference, and CNU is the Capital Athletic Conference champ.
Ticket prices are $10 per day and $20 for the entire tournament. The $20 pass will be sold ONLY on Friday. Tickets are $5 per day for students with ID, seniors 60+, and children 3-12. Anyone under three years of age will be admitted free.
