SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's men's tennis team has finished the the 2014 season as the runner-up in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
The Marlins faced No. 24-ranked Washington and Lee University in the ODAC tournament finals at Sweet Briar College and dropped a 5-0 decision. The Generals won the conference title for the fifth straight season and for the 33rd time in 38 years of ODAC play.
Washington and Lee (17-4) entered the title match ranked fifth in the Atlantic South, while Virginia Wesleyan (15-5) was ranked 17th in the same region. But, the Generals took control of the competition in doubles, winning all three flights by 8-3 scores.
WLU rode that momentum into singles where victories by Jordan Krasner (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) at the No. 4 flight and Brian Krouskos (Alpharetta, Ga./Mount Pisgah Christian) at the No. 5 position clinched the title for the Generals.
Virginia Wesleyan's total of 15 victories during the season is the highest for the program since the 2006 Marlins produced a 17-2 record. The runner-up finish is also the best for VWC since the ODAC adopted the team format for championship play in 2007. Marlin teams finished third in 2007 and 2013, before this year's No. 2 showing.
