Sadinski shines but VWC drops 5-4 thriller to Roanoke
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College Men's tennis team lost a 5-4 thriller against the Maroons of Roanoke College at a neutral venue on Washington and Lee University's campus on Wednesday.
The change in location was due to threatening weather conditions in Salem, Virginia.
The Marlins led by stand-out sophomore Ryan Sadinski(Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) , teamed up with sophomore Brian Luke(Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) to post a 8-4 win at #1 doubles over James Lee(Radnor, Pa/Radnor) and Charlie Graves(South Hamilton, MA/Hamilton Wenham Regional) to give the Marlins their only doubles point before singles.
Ryan would come back to win in dominating fashion 6-1, 6-2 over Greg Migliarese(Roanoke, VA/Hidden Valley) of Roanoke to help square the Marlins off at 2-2. Ryan's win puts his record to 5-1 in the ODAC at #4 singles.
The turning point of the match took place when the Marlins trailed 4-3, when it came down to two three-set thrillers at #1 singles and #2 singles. Sophomore Steven Bond (Petersburg, Va./Matoaca) came back from down 5-3 in the third set to win 7-5 to tie the match overall at 4-4. However, it was the Maroons who were able to take the deciding point at #1 singles to take the contest 5-4. The loss drops the Virginia Wesleyan College to 8-8 overall, 1-6 in the ODAC.
The Marlins return to competition Saturday, April 7 when they face cross-water rival Christopher Newport University at the Everett Tennis Center on the Virginia Wesleyan campus.. Match is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
