LEXINGTON, Va. -- After a slow offensive start Wednesday at Washington and Lee University, the Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team picked up the pace against the Generals in the second half.
But, the stepped-up effort failed to produce a goal as the visiting Marlins dropped a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference decision to fall to 2-4 overall this season.
Washington and Lee (4-2) scored twice in the first half and tacked on the third goal in the 48th minute of the contest. The Generals finished with a 15-10 edge in total shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) scored the first two goals of the game for the Generals and Toby D'Ambola (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) scored the third.
RookieJake Burtch (Virginia Beach/Floyd E. Kellam) started in goal for the Marlins and played 75 minutes, recording four saves. Junior Scott Westfall (Allen, Texas/Addison Trinity Christian) finished and produced one save.
Albert Civitarese Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley) recorded two saves for W&L.
VWC returns to competition on Friday, Sept. 21, hosting Roanoke College in an ODAC game beginning at 7 p.m.
