LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Corey Sindle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) headed the ball into the goal in the 103rd minute Tuesday to lift Randolph College to a 2-1 double overtime victory over Virginia Wesleyan College.
It was the second one-goal double OT loss to the host WildCats (15-5), who advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday, Nov. 5. The win was the fifth in a row for Randolph, while the loss snapped VWC's season-ending winning streak at three in a row, including a 2-0 decision over No. 1 seeded Roanoke College. Randolph is seeded No. 4. VWC, seeded No. 8, ends its season with a 7-11-1 record.
Virginia Wesleyan scored first in the contest when senior Josh Christian (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) scored in the 22nd minute. He was assisted by Brandon St. Amour (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and Brian Cornell (Front Royal, Va./Warren County).
The Marlins held the 'Cats out of the goal until the 86th minute when Jacob Luscek (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) tied the game for the host team.
Virginia Wesleyan finished the game with a 16-12 advantage in shots, while Randolph posted a 13-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Ryan Zmuda (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) recorded three saves for the Marlins. Carter Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) produced seven saves for Randolph.
