Double OT loss for Marlins at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- One goal decided the outcome again for Virginia Wesleyan College's men's soccer team on Wednesday.

Nick Cornell (Front Royal, Va./Warren) scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out in the 107 minute to lift the host WildCats of Randolph College to a 1-0 double overtime win over the Marlins in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

While VWC drops to 4-10-1 overall, and to 2-6 in the league, Randolph improves to 11-5 overall and to 4-4 in the loop.

The Marlins created scoring opportunities throughout the game, but Randolph's defense stepped up to make the stops when it had to.

Randolph finished with a 20-12 advantage in shots and posted a 9-7 edge in corner kicks.

Ryan Zmuda (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) recorded five saves in goal for the Marlins.  Carter Smith (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) also recorded five saves for Randolph.

VWC competes again on Saturday, Oct. 22, hosting Emory & Henry College in ODAC competition beginning at 2 p.m.
