Men Start Home Stand with Two Games this Week, Senior Day

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's lacrosse team will start a three-game home stand this week, hosting Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday before turning its attention to Randolph College on Saturday for Senior Day.

Randolph-Macon (7-7/3-3) has won just two of its last four games, but has faced three of the ODAC powers (Lynchburg, Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney) in that stretch. The Yellow Jackets most recently fell to Roanoke by a score of 17-6 on Saturday.

Two of the top players in the ODAC, one on offense and one on defense, suit up for Randolph-Macon. Sam Mayer leads the squad with 43 points and is second in the ODAC with 35 assists. He is helped by fellow offensive weapons Kyle Keepers (29 goals) and Miles Muncie (27 goals).

Brian Davies anchors the back line for the Yellow Jackets. He has 135 saves on the season, fifth-most in the league, to go with a 9.73 goals-against average, also fifth-best.

The Marlins defeated Randolph-Macon last year, 16-12. Recent graduates Josh Currier and John Roth combined for 11 of VWC's goals while Mayer finished with six assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph (4-9/0-6) will come to town Saturday for a 1 p.m. Senior Day start. The Marlins will recognize seniors Andre Brummitt, Justin FitzGerald, Cory Hilliard, Evan Merrill, Brandon Hayslett, and Eddie Desiderio in a pregame ceremony.

The WildCats have lost their last two, most recently falling by a narrow 9-8 margin to Bridgewater on Saturday. Graham Southwick paces the offense with 22 goals and 28 points while Mitch MacDonald adds 26 points on 19 goals and seven assists. Five WildCats have at least 20 points this season, making the offense a challenge to opposing teams.

Virginia Wesleyan won last year's game 17-6 as Currier posted eight points. Baldwin anchored the returning Marlins with three goals and two assists. MacDonald accounted for three of Randolph's six goals.

The Marlins will look to continue receiving strong play from Joe Couture (19 goals, eight assists) and Matt Baldwin (10 goals, 16 assists) while Desiderio is currently on a hot streak, moving him into second on the team with 18 goals.
