GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's men's lacrosse team put a pair of scoring runs together Saturday en route to posting a 12-6 non-conference victory over the host Pride of Greensboro College.
The Marlins (2-1) opened up a 2-1 first quarter lead with a four goal surge in the second to extend the lead to 6-1. Junior Adam Adamson (Marriottsville, Md./Baltimore Mt. St. Joseph) hit for back-to-back goals and senior Mike Tibbs (Baltimore, Md./Pasadena Northeast) and junior Mikey Connors (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) scored one each.
Greensboro (1-2) broke the string with a goal, but it did not take long for the Marlins to start it all over again with three consecutive goals to open up a 9-2 lead. Rookie Joe Pappetti (Edgewater, Md./South River) started it with a goal and senior stalwart Adam Nycz (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) tacked on two more.
The host Pride came on strong in the final quarter, firing 23 shots, but VWC junior goalie Corey Bauer (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) recorded seven of his 12 saves overall. Senior Quinn Magner (Chevy Chase, Md./Blue Ridge, Va.) also had a save in the fourth for the Marlins.
Nycz led VWC goal scoring with three and Pappetti, Adamson, and Connors added two goals each. Adamson also recorded four assists for the Marlins. Connors helped VWC's game with an 8-of-14 showing in face off battles, where rookie James Alvarez (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) was 2-of-4.
