Green, Matalon pace Marlins at ODAC title meet

CAPE CHARLES, Va. -- Senior Mitch Green and junior Ryan Matalon turned in the team-leading scores for Virginia Wesleyan College's golf team during the two-day Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship tournament at the Bay Creek Resort.

Green (Cordova, Md./St. Michael's) fired rounds of 84 and 85 to pace the Marlins with a 169 with Matalon (Virginia Beach/Floyd E. Kellam) close behind at 171 with rounds of 88 and 83.

Rookie Troy Katzer (Bay City, Texas/Bay City) finished at 180 (94-86) for VWC, followed by senior Mike Wiley (Virginia Beach/Bayside) at 189 (97-92).  Senior Adam Sauls (Chesapeake, Va./Norfolk Christian) started the tournament with an 88 but withdrew from second-day competition due to an injury.

Guilford College claimed its second-straight and 12th overall ODAC golf championship.  The Quakers, ranked second in the country, shot a 596 two round total (296-300) to finish 20-over-par, 19 strokes clear of second place Roanoke College (310-305--615).  Washington and Lee University finished in third place with a 622 two round total (315-307).

Roanoke's Brandon Ketron finished as the individual medalist, carding a 1-over par score of 74-71—145.
