VIRGINIA BEACH -- A valiant effort by the Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team helped to keep powerhouse Lynchburg College in check on Tuesday, but the visiting Hornets posted a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory at the National Training Center.
Lynchburg (14-3, 7-0), ranked 17th in the recent National Field Hockey Coaches Assocation poll, scored once in the first half off 16 shots. Kelli Williams (Middletown, Del./William Penn) did the scoring.
Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown/Grafton) accounted for both Lynchburg goals in the second half, scoring in the 48th minute and again in the 61st minute.
Virginia Wesleyan (3-12, 1-7) produced five shots and three penalty corners, while Lynchburg finished with 30 shots and 12 corners.
Junior Kirsten Olson (Springfield/Lorton South County) finished with 14 saves for the Marlins. Jordan Seeley (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) recorded three saves for Lynchburg.
The game was final outing of the season for Virginia Wesleyan.
